What3Words is essentially the concept of URL Shorteners applied to geographic coordinates, and as such is a similarly worrying idea. Many troubling aspects of the system are documented elsewhere, but of particular note is its rather blind adoption in some sectors, including being picked as the official Mongolian addressing system for the entire country. A lot of Mongolians are going to wake up in a few years to discover their addressing system has become entirely worthless because What3Words has gone out of business.
