Data[how to use] archiveteam_ipernity

ipernity is a website offering free and paid multimedia sharing and social networking services. The site allows storing and publishing of photos, blog entries, videos and audio files. Initially launched in April 2007 and won the second Open Web Awards in the Photo Sharing category in December 2008. Some Flickr users, unhappy with Flickr's redesign, migrated over to ipernity in 2013. As of September 2018, it claims to have more than 25000 active users.

Over the years, ipernity became a popular spot for Esperanto-speakers as the interface was translated into this language. For this reason, the network became an important piece of Esperanto history.[1][2]

Planned 2017 shutdown

Shutdown notice

In early 2016, we reported the situation ipernity has been facing (UPTIME 3535 article), and we were very touched by the great amount of support that article had sparked off.

Despite our limited resources, we have done our best to keep the service in good working condition, particularly by exploring several ways to bring ipernity a second life (many thanks to those who suggested ideas).

The best option remained to partner with another party who would be able to make the necessary investments. Unfortunately, the recent discussions we have conducted have failed.

This lack of perspective forces us to consider the shutdown of ipernity, probably on January 31, 2017 (or shortly after).

Operations takeover by members

In early 2017, it was proposed that a non-profit organisation formed by members of ipernity could take over the site. The Ipernity Members Association (ima) was founded on 2017-02-20 and officially took over the site on 2017-09-01.
